Clay in Print

Our Beads of Clay members have been getting some press the past month!  If you've had a chance to look at the Winter issue of Stringing Magazine you would have seen  gorgeous necklace by Gaea Cannaday called Lotus Dreams.  The focal is one of her lovely lotus pendants set in a copper bezel.  Kind of like this one!
Gaea also has a set of earrings featured.

On top of that, there's a cute little flower charm by Mary Harding on a bracelet by Kathy Nomura.  Jean Wells has a bracelet with a Starry Road Studio focal, and Kathryn Toplis-Lohaus' bracelet has a Summer's Studio focal.

Check back next month for more... I hear that the February/March issue of Step-by-Step Wire Jewelry has work by Marsha Hedrick and Joan Tucker!

December Clay in Print

Things seemed to be a little quiet on the publication front for a couple of months but it looks like the end of 2011 is going out with a bang for ceramic bead artists in publications!

Diana of Suburban Girl Studio has a pair of starfish and seashell raku charm earrings featured in the current issue of Bead Design Studio (Formerly Bead Unique Magazine).

MaryAnn Carroll has SIX finished jewelry pieces in the Winter issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry!  Congratulations MaryAnn, what wonderful exposure for your work!

Amy Genz is also giving us a sneak peek of her pendant that was used in Bohemian-Inspired Jewelry: 50 Designs Using Leather, Ribbon and Cords due to be released in May 2012.

Congratulations to all the artists featured this winter!  Anyone else published recently?  Please share in the comments!

Clay in Print with Melissa

Melissa is away so I am filling in for her today.  I thought I would start with a different angle on clay in print today.  I have included  some info from Stringing Magazine of their Artisan Village ads because so many of the shops are those of ceramic bead artists.  Included in the line up is none other than the BeadsofClay Etsy shop and 10 other ceramic clay artists, many of whom are Beads-of-Clay members.  Yeah Clay!!!TheBeadsofClay members listed are:

In the June Belle Armoire Jewelry , there is a great earring article by Julie McCann on  pages 68-71

featuring Elaine Ray ceramic beads.  We are, of course, so honored to claim Elaine as one of our founding members and she is still participating in the Group.
I have been inspired by the article to try some of these earrings myself with my own ceramic beads.  Isn't that what the magazine is about?  The pair I like especially uses those cool Industrial Chic connectors which I just happened to have on hand.
earrings and ceramic beads by Mary Harding

Please tell us what magazine design with ceramic beads has inspired you.  Leave a comment below, and a link to your creation, if you like, and I will  choose a winner on Thursday, July 28 and announce it in my Tool Talk Thursday post.

The lucky person will receive 2 pairs of Industrial Chic connectors and 2 Elaine Ray polka dot beads.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

May Clay in Print

May has been a quiet month for ceramic artists in print media... I suspect that this is mostly due to the fact that many issues are released seasonally, so we should see a big rush of things to talk about come June. Not much to share this month but what I have to show is a knockout!

Mary Harding had her beautiful pendant featured in Bead Trends magazine in a necklace by Cindy Wimmer. Such a pretty combination of earthy shades and textures!

Thank you to Cindy for sharing her photo with us!

and last but not least, a necklace by Lorelei Eurto called Red Swirls using an Off Center Productions pendant.

May is looking to be a quiet month for Clay in Print as many of the magazine issues were released this month and will still be on the stands. Be sure to leave a comment to let me know if you're a Beads of Clay.org member who has been featured somewhere!

March Clay in Print

In my last post I covered most of the BOC artists with their pieces featured in the spring issues of beading and jewelry magazines however I missed mentioning that Diana of Suburban Girl Studio has a pair of earrings and a tutorial in the Spring issue of Bead Unique. It's still on the newsstand so you have time to check it out! Diana also had a bead pictured in the spring issue of Stringing Magazine as part of a bracelet designed by Andrew Thornton.

Since I used up all the magazines for spring, all I have left to share is this wonderful book that recently came out. When you open up Wire Style 2 the first project in the book is a lovely necklace by Lorelei Eurto that showcases one of my porcelain zinnia connectors.

Keep leaving comments on the Clay in Print posts if you spot any BOC members in publications!

February Clay in Print

It looks like February/Spring are big for ceramic beads in publications!

First the spring issue of Stringing Magazine features Gaea, Artisan Clay and Jangles in the Beads to Buy section. Diane Hawkey has a lovely necklace titled "Cherry Blossoms" and Michelle Mach's necklace project titled "A Little Birdie Told Me" combines my Chinook Jewelry sheet music pendant and porcelain bead cap with an Earthenwood bluebird and ceramic branch.

Melanie of Earthenwood gets even more exposure with her own project, "Nesting Owl" with her owl, nest and leaf beads combined into a necklace.

Last but not least, Gaea has her own project, "Many Shades of Love". The gallery sections are also full of ceramic beads in bracelets and earrings...more Gaea as well as Summers Studio in bracelets and a pair of earrings by Marie Voyer-Cramp using my Chinook Jewelry zinnia charms.

Bead Unique Magazine also has a few ceramic beads included this issue. Diane Hawkey has another project, "Spring Dreaming" using her ceramic heart bead and Artisan Clay and Golem Studio are also represented. See any other BOC members in print? Leave us a comment so we don't miss them!
