Ordinary Items for Extra-Ordinary Textures

I thought it would be fun to find some ordinary items and make interesting textures. I spied the top of a water bottle and voila! I had lines to press into my small balls of clay.

That got me to thinking about rectangles. I found the end of a Popsicle stick and poked them into these balls of clay.

As fun as that was, I remembered the lava rocks I have from outside.  So I again went and found one with a complex surface to press into the clay.

What are some so-called ordinary textures other clay artists have used to come with their textures?  Share your links!  Below are the end results of my textures all finished up with glazes.

  2. Great post Natalie! I'm always looking for things outside the "ceramic tool" range to use for creating. It's always fun, like a treasure hunt. Love your beads!
