I live in a small town a little south of Charleston called Hollywood with my wonderful husband Greg and our 3 dogs--Tilly, a Miniature Pinscher, Jessie, a Miniature Pinscher, and Doxie, a Dachshund.

I make my jewelry in a rustic casual style using my handmade kiln fired pottery beads and pendants combined with semi-precious gemstones, wood and bone beads, shell beads and African recycled glass. I use a lot of handmade silver beads from the Karen Hill Tribe people of Thailand. Their beads are made by hand using ancient silver-smithing techniques which really suit the rustic style that I like. I finish my pieces with my hand-forged hammered sterling clasps. I also make hand-forged sterling bangles and earrings, and hope to add a line of rings in the near future.

My husband built a wonderful studio for me this past year in the woods behind our house. It is a joy to have this peaceful and spacious place to work after years of trying to cram everything into the house or into his wood shop.

To make the pottery centerpiece for this ring, I hand-formed and carved a small piece of stoneware clay. After drying for several days, it was bisque fired to almost 2000 degrees in my kiln. Then I glazed it and it was fired again to almost 3000 degrees. So it is well made and extremely durable.

The ring itself is bench-made from sterling silver sheet and wire. After forging it, I burnished and polished it to a high shine, then set in the pottery centerpiece.

I stamped 'sterling' inside the band. Ring Size: 6.5. My workmanship is guaranteed for life.

This is a mix of cranberry pearls, citrine, serpentine, green garnet, tiger eye, Thai sterling and a few of my handmade stoneware pottery beads with glass seed beads and my hand-forged sterling clasp. Strung on heavy-duty professional jeweler's wire -- guaranteed not to kink or break.

The turtle on this pendant is from a stamp that I hand-carved. The clay is cone 5 stoneware--which means that it's very durable and hard to break. The size of the pendant is 1.5" diameter. It is knotted onto a silk ribbon and finished with my hand-forged sterling clasp. The length of the cord, NOT including the pendant, is 22 inches.

It has always been my goal to create high quality trendy/hip/cool pieces at down to earth prices that women like myself can afford to buy and enjoy. I have always guaranteed unconditional satisfaction with any piece I sell, and that includes free repair--no matter how long you've had it. So have fun looking at my designs, and if you live near Charleston, SC check my Etsy Profile for a listing of the arts and craft shows I'll be selling at this year.

We use four different clay bodies to make Our ceramic pendants. The lightest clay is a porcelain body that is bright white and shows off bright colors and special effect glazes most effectively. Our chocolate clay body is a beautiful dark brown color that looks wonderful with semi opaque and matte glazes. The chocolate color gives an feeling of depth and warmth. It is a favorite!

These handmade ceramic peace pendant ornaments are made with glass and ceramic beads on copper wire and are about 4" long. This one is shown in "Emerald" but may be ordered in other colors (please see color chart at http://www.gaea.cc/gaea_colors.html) Orders may take about 2-3 weeks to fill. These high fired pendants are available with many words including "joy", "love" and "peace"

These handmade ceramic heart pendants are strung on faux leather cord in black, brown or tan and have a hand formed copper wire clasp. Necklaces are about 17" long but may be requested in other lengths. Necklace is shown in "Butter on Tan" but may be ordered in other colors (again, please see color chart at http://www.gaea.cc/gaea_colors.html) These high fired hearts are available with roses, daisies, roses/daisies, skulls and flowers, sea shells, coffee beans, leaves, floral or plain and measure approximately 1 3/4" wide.

The buff clay body adds a wonderful warm "antique" glow.
Tan clay is a medium color clay that looks good with crackle and semi opaque galzes. Due to our pendants handmade nature each one will vary a bit. That just makes each one unique and different. All our pendants and art are high fired to cone 5 which makes them strong and beautiful!

Here are 10 Gaea handmade ceramic "odds & ends" pendants and beads! We have accumulated a lot of odds (not quite the right color/shape/size/style, small hidden and not so hidden cracks or blemishes) and ends (discontinued, experiments, etc...) that are perfect and fun for craft projects, jewelry, ornaments, mosaics or scrap booking! We are clearing out these fun bundles and each are a mix of colors and styles and available while supplies last! Gaea handmade pendants and are high fired to almost 2200 degrees to make them beautiful and durable.

Glaze colors range from transparent to opaque, bright to pale in color and everything in between! We use several special crackle glazes and have many new colors for Fall. Because our pendants are handmade in small batches the same color on the same clay may vary from firing to firing.

Hi! I'm Marla.
I have been playing with earth clay most of my life. For the past few years I have been making tiny things. Pendants, beads and tiny sculpture.

This Pretty pendant is made of White Stoneware. It measures 45mm x 37mm. Glazed in a Grape Marbled Glaze with black cobblestone over the right half. Glazed front and back. All my beads and pendants are handmade in my home studio, and are either porcelain or stoneware clay bodies. Both of which are very durable.

This Stoneware Maple Leaf Pendant is glazed front and back with a rustic brown glaze. This is a carved piece. No mold used here. Fired before and after glazing, it is a very sturdy piece. It measures 1 3/4" x1 3/4". No Sharp edges. Stringing hole is smooth,2mm, and won't be a thread cutter. All my beads and pendants are handmade in my home studio.

This set of 6 buttons are handmade from Porcelain clay. The backs are glazed with a shiny Black. Each Measures 22mm round.

Blue Spice Creative specializes in historical reproductions of beads, ceramics, paternosters/rosaries, and other artifacts of the ancient/classical and medieval eras.

This Creamy Ceramic Pendant on white ceramic terracotta is 34mm length x 54mm wide. It is decorated with sgraffito triangle/spiral and antlers motifs and pierced in 3 places for a variety of stringing/ornamentation options. Preformed hole makes this ready for stringing (using such materials as leather or silk).

This set of 7 round handmade ceramic beads have a shiny blue-to-brown glaze over orange terracotta. They measure in range of 14mm-17mm and the hole size is approx. 4mm.

Because these are handmade, every single bead is unique. No two are exactly alike. They are temporarily strung on blue perle cotton as shown in the image.

"I'm sure you can imagine lots of uses for these beads... I like their rustic qualities and recommend using leather cord with large wooden, bone, or horn beads for a primitive style necklace. On the other hand, the contrast of the earthy terracotta with glass and crystal is also very flattering (I usually use twisted silk for stringing in this case). These beads are especially well suited to wire work (such as copper) for bracelets."

Here is a 53mm diameter round ceramic pendant. Both sides are glazed with Plum, brown, and blue colored colored glaze on white ceramic terracotta. Blue Spice Creative uses low-fire earthenware clays and glazes to replicate and to reinvent objects and motifs from these time periods.

Joan Miller Porcelain is a one woman operation. She has a BFA from the Maryland Institute of Art and has been working as a full-time professional craftsperson since 1989. She maintains an in-home studio on 13 wooded acres in Eastern PA where she lives with her husband, two dogs, a cat and a frog. Her work is done primarily in porcelain, using body stains in porcelain slips. Her detail work and use of color and pattern are exquisite! Nature is her best source of inspiration as frogs, fish and other small creatures are frequent subject matter.

Five happy koi swim all around this hollow porcelain lentil shaped focal bead. Finish simply and wear as a pendant or incorporate into your fabulous beading project. Koi and flowers are dimensional in raised colored porcelain slip. Bead is finished with a clear gloss glaze and fired in an electric kiln to cone 6. This Bead measures 30mm in diameter and is 18mm thick.

Joan: I love spending time in the studio and give my undivided attention to every single piece. I graduated from the MD Institute of Art in 1984 with a BFA in Fine Arts. I have been working almost exclusively in porcelain since 1989 when my jewelry business was born. Over the last six to seven years my interest has shifted from finished jewelry to beads. I love the collaborative nature of beads. I am thrilled when another artists chooses to use my beads in their creations.

This is a lovely little set of my patterned disc beads. These little guys have so many design possibilities. Small enough to be spacers but interesting enough to stand on their own as a design element. Use as shown or flat like wheels. Materials: colored porcelain, clear glaze. Size: strand is about 1 3/4 inches long and each disc is approx. 15mm in diameter and 5mm thick.

This set of three whimsical porcelain pendant consists of one pear, one garlic and one carrots. Pendants are cone 6 porcelain with raised fruit/vegetable design. Dark underglaze antiquing accents form and pendants are finished with a satin glaze. Great gift for gardener, cook, vegetarian, etc. Each pendant measures approx. 24mm x 30 mm and is 4mm thick.

Joan had no idea there was a market for just beads until one summer at the Guilford Handcrafts Expo in CT ... she was working on some pieces in the back of her booth during a slow period and she noticed ladies coming behind her counter poking through the bead boxes. One of these ladies told her about a little bead show in CT and the rest is history. In recent years she has concentrated on art beads. Joan says, “To me beads take on a life of their own, just like the little critters portrayed on them. A good bead can stand on it’s own as an individual work of art, but is just as comfortable being incorporated into another piece of art.”

Earthenwood Studio is a name dreamed up many moons ago by two artists who fell in love while studying at art school and started to plan their personal and professional lives together. The name combines Melanie’s love of earth clays and Chuck’s love of wood engraving and paper arts.

This is a set of three Memento Heart charms. This style of charm can be seen in a project called "Brokenhearted Necklace" in the new issue of Simple Beads Magazine, on bookshelves now!

Earthenwood Studio specializes in a wide range of Arts and Crafts. Our handcrafted craft gift line includes handcrafted porcelain jewelry components and kits, ceramic earthenware gift tile, terra cotta scent and spa products, and stoneware sculpture. We also feature prints and original paintings in the sci-fi fantasy genre.

This winged pendant has two side holes and is glazed front and back. Perfect for an aviation, steam punky style necklace. Inspired by old timey aeroplanes and old school tattoos.

Although the two artists work independently, they share their home studio space, the Earthenwood Studio website, and they travel together for shows and conventions supporting and helping each other out as often as possible.

Melanie is a ceramic artist, specializing in the miniature world of beads and jewelry. Working in the comfort of her home studio, she has been making and selling ceramic beads and jewelry of her own design for much of the ten years since she graduated art college. She has sold her work in galleries, bead stores, bead shows, and through the Earthenwood website . In the last three years, the studio business has become a full time occupation, and is the realization of life long dreams. Melanie works at the home studio with her husband and fellow artist Chuck, and they are "assisted" by their loyal companion, Zoey the studio dog.

This Amethyst and Red Mayfly Fairy Pendant is one of Melanie's Mayfly Fairies glazed in red, black, and amethyst. Two holes at the top for a necklace. She was hand carved by Melanie and made into a clay mold.

For her beads, Melanie is drawn mostly to working in fine white porcelain because of the detail it provides and how it acts as a blank canvas for the colorful and varied glazes in her palette. The beads are all fired to a mid-high fire temperature (about 2300 degrees F) in an electric kiln. Custom molds are used for some of the most detailed beads, and others are hand formed individually. Some of the beads are made with a combination of mold techniques mixed with hand forming using wooden tools, stamps, and small sprig molds. Melanie especially enjoys imagery of fairyland, goddesses, and the natural world. She finds inspiration in historical ceramics like Yixing Teapots and Egyptian Amulets, as well as the miniature carvings of Ojime and Netsuke of Japan. Fantasy artwork and Anime also are an endless source of inspiration.

Melanie always loves to see her beads come alive in the bead and craft creations of others, enjoying this collaboration with artists and designers, and the pleasure when her beads can inspire someone's imagination! She spends most of her business time chatting with customers and fellow artists online or in person at the various bead shows she attends. This interaction with creative people is one of the most rewarding thing about the Earthenwood Studio business.

Melanie also places importance on working with others in the ceramic bead community. She is the co-founder and co-moderator of the Beads of Clay group, which has a galley website and a discussion group. This group works together to raise awareness in the bead world about the beauty of handcrafted, artisan ceramic beads through education and collaborative Earthenwood.

I am Sharleen and my business name is Shaterra Clay Studio. I have been designing and selling ceramic jewelry components and finished jewelry since 2003. All of my items are fashioned from low-fire white or red clay, and are fired at least twice. All of my designs are original and unique. I have been crafting in one way or another since childhood. My education includes a degree in Textile and Clothing design. I own 4 sewing machines, a knitting machine, and a loom in addition to my kiln!!

These hand shaped, coin type beads are 1" round. One side features a leaf design, the other a swirl design. Unique beads to add a special touch to your jewelry designs. I have been working in ceramics for about 4 years. While I do have an artistic background, my college training was in fashion design. I was on the art show circuit for about 15 years, designing and selling various fiber items, mostly clothing.

This green ceramic turtle is fashioned from red clay. He measures 2 3/4" long x 1 1/2" wide through the body. Glazed with subtle greens, he has a 3D swirl design on his back. Around 1990 or so, I started playing with beads and creating necklaces and earrings. Gradually my product line segued into jewelry design. In 2002, I became interested in making my own beads. I had taken a ceramics class in high school, and as soon as I got my hands back into the clay, I remembered how much I loved it.

Pressed from ginko leaves gathered at a nearby conservatory, this lovely ginko leaf will get many compliments. It can be worn alone on a chain or cord, or string a beaded cord. 2 1/2" wide x 1 3/4" long, glazed and fired ceramic. I especially love color. My inspiration often comes when I am half-asleep , and designs appear in my head. All of my beads, buttons and pendants are made of low fire clay that comes from the earth. This is the same material that ceramic pots have been made from for centuries. The beads are individually hand formed using clay rollers that enable me to make very round and other symmetrical shapes.

Some are carved or have 3-D motifs attached. The pendants are cut from rolled clay and embellished. All of the elements are created from low fire clay, which is fired twice, first in a biscuit or bisque firing, then glazed and fired again at a lower temperature.

This results in a very durable bead that is waterproof, and the finish will never wear off. However, some caution should be used when handling the beads, as they will crack or chip if dropped from a distance onto a hard surface.

My other interests include reading, gardening and I have a special love for animals. My two dogs are my "K-9 Ceramic Companions" and most often can be found sleeping on the futon next to the table where I work.

I began ceramic bead making about 8 years ago when I couldn't find beads with holes large enough for the macrame jewelry I was making at the time. Once I got started I couldn't stop. Two years ago I became a member of the Yahoo Group Beads of Clay and have been so happy to find a community of ceramic beaders. They all do lovely work and have been an inspiration.

I enjoy including natural plants and colors in my work. One day I discovered that ceramic beads are a natural for free form peyote stitch so now I include my handmade beads, cabachons and pendants in my free-form work.

This is a handmade earthenware ceramic pendant of a young maple leaf. Leaf and pendant are hand colored and gloss glazed. My initials are on the back which is also gloss glazed. Pendant measures 1 1/4 inches with a 2 mm stringing hole. This maple leaf pendant is a great tribute to sugaring and early spring which cannot be too far away now that our 3 feet of snow has melted and it is 60 degrees out.

This handmade earthenware ceramic pendant by measures 1 1/4 with a 3mm stringing hole. Image depicts wild clover that grows in the pastures of Northern New York. Pendant has been hand-painted, gloss glazed front and back and is initialed by me on the back. I fire all of my ceramic pendants in my digitally controlled kiln multiple times for depth of color and durability.

This Wild Lovage Heart is made from earthenware ceramic clay. Hanger is from Nichrome wire. Pendant measures 1 1/4 inches by 1 1/4, has been fired multiple times and is initialed by me on the back which is also gloss glazed. This decorative heart would look well strung alone or as part of a creative designer necklace.

For all of my adult life I have been involved in the creation of art: from California to England and to Berlin. From photography to drawing to carving and to ceramic bead work. I feel happy when I can use my hands and imagination to create beautiful jewelry. I also am happy when I can serve the needs of others and find that art and social work go together as well as ceramic beads and free-form peyote stitch. So that is how I have been able find balance in my creative and working life.

It is my wish & delight that wearing "LadyBrook Designs" jewelry lets you express the unique beautiful person you are. Enjoy!

This is another in a series of unique ceramic crosses handmade of ceramic clay & designed, glazed on both sides with hi-fire wire loop 1mm set in low profile. The Pendant is 1 1/2" long & 1" wide & 1/8" thick. I handcraft my beads and pendants from ceramic, porcelain & terra-cotta clays.

Making beads with clay is an ancient art form...and I love the whole process of creating my LadyBrook beads from the clay.

This next Pendant is titled Birds of Peace ... surrounding a universal star! It is hand stamped & designed, glazed front & back with "Peace" hand written in the clay & initialed by artist. The glaze on birds is actually a more lighter turquoise blue. A beautiful pendant to design with. Pendant is 1 1/2" diameter with a 2 mm hole.

Pendants, beads & charms are designed by hand stamping the soft clay with a variety of textures, adding the holes, and Hi-fire wire for loops then in the kiln to bisque. Next I glaze, and also carefully hand-paint with underglazes followed by a few coats of clear glaze. The beads, pendants & charms are then placed back in the kiln carefully on my handmade hooks, the kiln is fired up again and when cool to room temperature ....the lid is lifted as I hold my breath and get that thrill of Wow! Then I design them into the jewelry you see...or for your own designs!

These are very tiny ceramic flowers from the LadyBrook fairy garden with hand painted details & glazed both front & back is solid glaze color. Each has hi-fire wire loop. Lovely to dangle off any of your creations. Each one is a tiny work of art. Flower Dangles about 1/4" diam with a 1mm loop.

Here at LadyBrook Designs studio...the fairies play, the moon & stars dance...and along with nature, music & my imagination...I create!! Besides the great joy of working in my studio, I also enjoy my guitar, conga drum, flute, dancing, gardening....being in the woods hiking, dreaming!

My fabulous ceramic bead making book will be out this June. I am so excited and I know you will love it. If you want to receive information about it when it comes out sign up for my newsletter and I will keep you posted.

Art to me is such an inborn process. I wouldn't know what to do with my life if I wasn't making something. I believe this is part of our purpose on earth is to create with our hands. It is very satisfying to see something physical that you have created from almost nothing.

These cute little beads are about 5/8" wide. They come as a set of five and are already to be strung up. The holes run side to side. These are a limited editon bead and only a few sets have been made.

I like forms in nature. I love visiting aquariums and botanical gardens. I love taking photos of what I see. Nature is the perfect example of art. I gather a lot of inspiration from it. But most of all my passion is color. I love color and experimenting with new combinations. That is why my work is always changing. Beads are such a great opportunity to express myself. No two are ever the same. Each bead to me is an individual work of art.

These links would be great with a few glass coordinating beads in between. Each bead has two wire loops for attching. These beads are a little bigger than an inch in diameter.

My goal and aspirations as an artist are to provide the public with small pieces of art that anyone can afford. I have always made functional art. I think the best art is art that can be utilized everyday in our lives, whether it is wearing a beaded necklace or drinking from a hand thrown mug. This way a relationship is formed between the user and the artist. I strive to keep my art affordable. By doing this art can touch more lives, educating and interesting more people. The more art lovers we have the more we all benefit.

Yet again, another one of my ideas that I just never got made into jewelry. I hate that I never got to this one, because I think she would be so cute. Make sure you check out her shoes.

About the process: I am a control freak and because of that you benefit. I enjoy the entire process too much to let anyone help me. I make every bead myself. I start by hand forming the clay into the shape I want, whether it is a ball, cylinder, or flower. After the beads are slowly dried they are fired in an electric kiln to 2000 degrees. They are individually glazed with tiny brushes. After the underglaze colors are applied then two coats of clear glaze are painted on the bead. They are then placed back in the kiln for a second firing. This time on special bead holders designed by myself. After the second firing, I can hardly wait to open my kiln and see what small treasures I have created.

Please enjoy my beads and jewelry as much as I do making them.
