I specialize in functional hand painted Renaissance style ceramics. I base my work on my research of classic Italian maiolica designs from the 15th and 16th centuries. I create both original designs using common historic motifs and designs which are copies of Renaissance maiolica museum pieces.

My "motto" bead pendants are one of my most popular items. I use more than 20 different mottos and a variety of colors and designs. I have a list of the mottos on my website http://www.marysmaiolicaarts.com. If you are interested in a different motto/color combination, contact me and I can tell you what I have in stock. I also make custom beads.

Maiolica is a style of decorative ceramics that dates to the Renaissance. If you would like to learn more about maiolica, visit the Informatory on my website. I have images of historic maiolica and some information on how it is made.

This hand made pendant necklace is a wonderful gift for a teenage girl. It features a hand made and hand painted ceramic bead is inscribed with the Italian phrase "L'AMORE VERO E PAZIENTE" which translates as "True love is patient" or "True love waits".

I totally hand make my clay beads starting from raw clay. The beads are hand painted and are fired twice in a kiln. My ceramic beads are decorated using a traditional technique known as maiolica (also known as majolica). Maiolica is a type of low-fire ceramic earthenware where colored decoration is applied on top of an opaque white glaze. This technique was especially popular during the Renaissance.

The maiolica bead is strung on sterling silver wire with sterling silver beads and a sterling silver heart charm. The ceramic bead has a diameter of 3/4 inches and the pendant is 2 1/8 inches long. The pendant hangs on a polished cotton cord tied with a double slip knot which allow the pendant to hang as a choker or a long pendant. Length converts from approx 16" to 26".

My beads are based on ones made in 16th century Italy. Hand painted beads were often given as small love tokens for a girl getting married. They were frequently inscribed with the word "Bella" which means "beautiful". During the Renaissance the beads were used as spinning weights.

My ceramic beads are totally hand made, starting from raw clay, and were fired twice in a kiln. The ceramic beads hang from sterling silver ear wire. The flat ceramic beads have a diameter of 3/4 inches and the earrings are 1 1/8 inches long.
I have been making decorative ceramics since 2000. I am also a potter. I make beads, bowls, plates and jars. I also hand paint commerically made blank tiles and platters.

This multicolored checkerboard pattern is a traditional Renaissance pattern that also appeals to quilting enthusiasts. Each ceramic bead is 5/8 inches by 5/8 inches and the earrings are 1 inch long.

I also make personalized wedding keepsakes as well as personalized hand painted beads.

I am a studio artist who works with both stoneware and porcelain clay to create unique jewelery as well as functional pottery. One of my favorite parts of going to craft sales are the trades I make with other artisans for their work and for supplies. I have been making pottery for about 30 years and my husband and I both make functional stoneware and porcelain pieces. The pottery pieces are created on the wheel with stoneware and porcelain clays that are fired in both gas and electric kilns. I plan to offer a full range of my functional work on Etsy.

This pendant has been handcrafted from stoneware clay and then glazed with multiple layers of glaze applied by hand. It measures 2 inches long and 1 inch wide. Brushwork in a contrasting glaze enhances the natural lines of this pendant. The cord is commercial, and measures 16 inches with an extender that allows for an extra 2 1/2 inches of length.

The newest work I've undertaken is a line of clay and semiprecious stone jewelry. I've found myself to be a bit of a gem-hound and bead-a-holic. This porcelain pendant is handcrafted, glazed on both sides and has been signed by the artist. It is glazed with a deep cobalt blue glaze , and then fired a second time with a hand-painted white gold over-glaze luster. It also features a fine sterling silver bail and a silk cord that measures 18 inches in length. The pendant is 2 inches in length and 5/8 inches in width. This one is perfect with either jeans or that little black dress.

I love glazes that are warm and earthy and draw most of my inspiration from the pottery tradition introduced by the British potters in the post WW2 era, and the colors that dominate the prairie landscape. I love to make large bowls and platters. Lately I have been working to produce a line of slab-built pottery that will introduce a wider variety of shapes and color palette to my work.

This lovely porcelain pendant with silver and gold appliqué luster was crafted by the artist from porcelain clay,is glazed on both sides, fired to 2300 degrees, then k gold and platinum lusters are applied to portions of the pendant and it is re-fired to mature the luster. Silver plated bail on a sterling silver 18 inch chain. The money from this sale will be donated to the DAWN'S KIDS fund. Perfect for that angel in your life. Pendant measures 1 1/2 inches from the tip of the bail.

I love breaking dishes, playing in mud and now I'm back to making jewelry and learning to solder! I am a self taught mosaic artist and have been cracking and creating for over 8 years. The more I do, the more I want to do, but my "Real" job keeps getting in the way of my play time! LOL!

Formed from wet clay and then fired twice, once to bisque and then color washed in blue and fired for durability, this ornament would look lovely on your tree this year. She measures 3" X 3" and has been glazed with a blue wash and then wiped so that the color stays in the crevices and brings out the detail.

I make mosaics with broken dishes (pique assiette) but also make them with my whimsical clay tiles. I also teach beginner mosaic classes. You can find information on my webite; http://www.enchantedchina.net. click on classes.

Both of these were molded from wet clay, fired to bisque and then glazed with a Celtic green wash, these pendants were then fired again for durability. They are the Celtic triard and green man. Each measures approximately 2".

They are ready to wear, just put on a cord or chain, or let your creative juices loose and create a necklace around them by wirewrapping, beading or where ever your imagination takes you.

I am also experimenting with glazes. Sometimes things don't turn out like you expect, but then sometimes they are better! I'm working with some high fire crackle glazes for my pendants.

The large hand-stamped fairy is 4 1/2" wide with "Fairy Crossing" running across the top and then a texture design was stamped around the edges. Attached with gold tone wire are some of my clay fired beads, as well as, foiled and glass beads. I then finished this lovely piece with a textured heart pendant.

The whole piece measures over 7" and would look lovely in any room in your home.

I hope you keep checking back as you never know what you may find in my shop! And please check out my blog on Indiepublic.

Now don't just sit there, go break something!

I have lived most of my life in Florida, so nature and the ocean have a strong influence on my work. I like to add abstract designs to those ideas to put my own spin on things. I consider my ceramic beads and fused glass pieces one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Many of my jewelry designs feature them, but I also sell them separately so you can use them to create your own works of art. All of my ceramic and glass pieces are signed and dated. See what I am up to by visiting my blog at http://www.ShifflettStudios.blogspot.com.

While in college getting my business degree, I overloaded with art classes as stress relief. I ended up just short of an art minor in addition to my double major in Marketing and Management. After graduation, I continued taking another year of graphic design and computer graphics classes at a local college. Most recently, I attended Crealde School of Art and studied ceramics and wheel throwing for 3 years. I have always had a love for art and have tried many different medias, but my favorites are clay and glass. I’ve been working in clay since 2002 and ventured into glass and jewelry making in 2004. All of my creations are made in my home studio.

All of my ceramic pieces start from a lump of clay. They are shaped, dried, and fired once to cone 04 (approximately 1800 degrees), glazed, then fired again to cone 6 (approximately 2200 degrees) for durability. With each firing taking 24 hours or more, the most rewarding and anticipated moment is opening the kiln to reveal the finished treasures. When making sets of beads, I do my best to make them similar, but due to the handmade nature of the beads and the sometimes unpredictable forces in the kiln, there may be some slight variations in each bead.

I will occasionally have a finished, ready to wear piece to sell.

I have been working with clay for 8 years, and making beads and pendants since early 2006. I enjoy creating my pieces but the most fun comes when I open the kiln and see the results of a long process in all different color glazes, shapes and sizes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I am a proud member of Fired Clay Artists and Beads of Clay, CCCOE California Crafter's Club of Etsy and AOSC Artisans of Southern California Etsy. Visit www.yolanda.firedclayartists.com for some of my other items.

I became interested in jewellery as a form of artistic expression because of the inherent intimacy of small-scale work. I find that a pendant invites the viewer to come closer, to turn it in their hands, and to explore it in a way that larger scale pieces might not. My interest in decorative surfaces and finishes encourages me to explore innovative techniques such as raku, smoke firing and gold leafing in order to achieve fresh and varied effects. I also prepare 'fused' and 'troche worked' glass beads. Everything I make is one of a kind...when it is gone it is gone.

I have been carving out my niche in the ever-expanding jewelry market. Stringing began as a little hobby that has become an obsession! I love unique glass beads, just about every semi-precious gemstone and metals. Copper is my latest love.

Last year I discovered the wonderful Kazuri beads made by the women in Kenya and decided to try making my own ceramic beads. My mother had been a china painter and her kiln was sitting there waiting to be used. When my hairstylist, who makes wonderful pottery, encouraged me to give bead making a try, I decided to put the kiln to use! My latest creative venture is making porcelain and stoneware clay pendants and beads that I glaze and then fire in the little electric kiln.

Most of my beads are fired to a cone 6, which is mid-range and this produces a very sturdy bead or pendant; one that will not likely chip in everyday use. I am investigating the use of low fire clay and glazes and sometime soon will perhaps be listing some of these. I am what is called a "newbie" in this venture and am learning as I go.

If you are not a potter, you may not know how labor intensive the process is to make ceramic beads and pendants. Each item must be formed by hand, carefully dried and then fired to bisque. Somewhere along this initial process, the item must be smoothed by sanding or tumbling. Then a glaze is applied.

This last necklace began with a beautiful ceramic pendant with a pistachio glaze and organic texture and large hole. It is suspended from a necklace that has beads of different materials (wood and clay) and lots of dark and mysterious AB iris seed beads. The clasp is a bronze toggle. Length: 18" plus pendant drop of about 1 1/2" Pendant: 1 1/2" diameter.
